I had the pleasure of catching up with Les from Resi Inspections this week to talk about Termites, and more specifically, what are the top three things he recommends home owners do while they are stuck in isolation.
It’s not too often the Government forces you to stay at home and chill, but with all the stress around Corona Virus, everyone’s health and the economy I thought it might be nice to find something to do with all this ‘Home Time’ we have up our sleeve, something that will keep us busy and, at the same time, be beneficial.
So for this week’s blog, I spoke to Les to get his top 3 checks he recommends his clients do to check their homes for Termites, and here they are;
Get outside
Taking a walk around the back yard to look for ‘mud tunnels’ is a really great way to see if you could have termites in your backyard. Les has a couple examples at the end of the video and he stresses that having termites in the backyard may not mean you have them in your home but it is certainly something you will want to discuss with him to ensure they don’t eventually find their way into your home and cause damage.
Check the gardens
Check any garden beds that may be up against the home. Les talks about how the termites could use the garden as protection to easily access the frame of your home. Making sure the garden is pulled away from the home makes it harder for termites to get in.
Press some skirting boards
In the video, Les talks about how termites will usually leave a thin film between the outside world and them, so they may have caused signoificant damage to your home but to the untrained eye, everything looks great.
By pressing in some skirting boards, if they are soft or cave in, you know there is (or has been) termites in the property.
What if you find termites?
It is important not to disrupt the termites, Les suggests covering them back over and contacting himself to discuss further. If you do disrupt them too much, they may relocate the nest which makes finding them far more difficult.
Les is also available at this stage for checks if you have something you are concerned about or, he is happy to chat via Skype or FaceTime to help you answer any questions you may have.
Remember, your best defence against termites is to have your annual pest inspections and if you haven’t had yours in some time, make sure you contact Les http://resii.com.au/ to book a time to get it done.
I would also like to remind you, if you are experiencing any financial difficulty thorough this time, please know you are not alone and there is help available to you should you need it.
