More Than An Interest Rate

Finding the right loan is more than finding the cheapest interest rate, sometimes, looking only at the interest rate can cost you your dream home, for example…

I had a fantastic job working PAYG for one of the Major banks. I started working there part-time while I finished my University degree and it was about 5 years later I realised I loved my job, I loved the people I worked with and above all I loved the impact I could make on my client’s lives.

I stayed with this Bank for another 8 years and through various roles, until one morning I realised my passion had changed, I no longer wanted to help a client with the limited product and services I had access to but I wanted to genuinely pair my clients with the best options suited to them. This meant leaving my adored PAYG position and starting up my own Mortgage Brokerage.

I wanted to make a bigger impact and help more clients, clients like this:

Late last year I met with a beautiful couple who had signed a contract to purchase a block of land so they could build their second home. They wanted to keep their current home and rent it out for some tax benefits and build their new family home.

When I met with Jane and Sam, they had already spoken to a Mortgage Broker, they had applications in with two different lenders and they had already missed two finance dates.

After meeting with Jane and Sam, getting to know more about them and their long term plans the issue became obvious. They were trying to get the best rates they could get from the different lenders, makes sense, don’t we all want to save money on the Interest rate?

The thing is, Home loans aren’t always about getting the best rate in the market, in fact they way they were going they weren’t going to get an approval at all and were at risk of losing the block of land they’d fallen in love with.

When I talk to a client I get an idea of what their shot and long term plans are, what’s important to them and piece together how I can help them bridge the gap.  Obviously I look at getting my clients the best interest rate available but I look at more than that, I look at how I can help them achieve their plans, based on their current circumstances, naturally saving as much money as possible.
